The comedy in Sid is drawn from both clumsiness and naivety of the word around him. In his clumsiness Sid is constantly, but accidently, getting the group in to various sticky and awkward situations to complicate the task of completing their main objective. His naivety of the world is what drives him, it breeds inquisitiveness in him and pushes him forward in his quest to return the child or get to the boat.
During the film, Sid is the character that holds the children’s interest in the film, without him the other two would appear very boring and would probably have got to their destination without any amusing hiccups along the way.
In his constant antics it is an exaggeration of facial expressions and accidents that make it a lot more comical. It is almost a surreal version of the ‘drama queen’ effect.
